A step towards constitutional recognition of Rajasthani language; proposal sent to Center on initiative of Education Minister
A great news for the people of Rajasthan. The demand for constitutional recognition of the Rajasthani language seems to be fulfilled. On the initiative of Education Minister Madan Dilawar, Chief Secretary Sudhansh Pant has written a letter to the Government of India.
In the letter, he has recommended to Home Secretary Govind Mohil to include the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule. Let us tell you that voices have been raised in the state to get constitutional recognition for the Rajasthani language.
The Chief Secretary has written in the letter that in the recommendation of the committee constituted under the chairmanship of Sitakant Mahapatra to include more languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India and to prepare objective criteria, various languages have been declared eligible for constitutional status.
The recommendation of the committee is under consideration in the Home Ministry. At the same time, the Rajasthani language has not been included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India till now. Therefore, appropriate orders should be provided regarding the action to include the Rajasthani language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
It is worth mentioning that the assembly has passed a resolution on 3 September 2003 to include Rajasthani language in the eighth schedule of the constitution. Now it is left to be approved at the level of the Government of India. The Rajasthan government has started the work. Sources say that it can be approved by next year. There has been a demand for years to get constitutional recognition for the Rajasthani language. Many agitations have also taken place. Now the government is working on this subject. Let us tell you that the issue of the mother tongue Rajasthani is related to the identity and public sentiment of the state. Getting constitutional recognition for the Rajasthani language will make governance easier. This step by the Education Minister may soon yield results.
