B. Subhash had said- 'Rajesh Khanna was a very good friend of mine. When his career was going through a difficult phase, I helped him. When he became a superstar, he told me- I want to do something for you. Just tell me what I can do for you. I asked Rajesh Khanna to do a guest role in Disco Dancer. To this, he replied- Usually I don't do small roles, but I will do this for you. After this, he did a cameo in the film.

During this time Amitabh Bachchan was giving tough competition to Rajesh Khanna, due to which his stardom was continuously declining.
