Bihar's Energy Landscape Transformed: 2400 MW Thermal Power Plant to be Established in Pirpainti

In a move that promises to revolutionize Bihar's energy sector, the state government has given the green signal for the establishment of a 2400 MW thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district. This ambitious project, which boasts an estimated investment of ₹21,400 crore, is poised to transform the energy landscape of Bihar, benefiting a staggering 13 crore residents.

The proposed power plant, which will be set up by the Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited, is expected to significantly reduce the state's reliance on external sources for electricity. This, in turn, will lead to a more cost-effective electricity procurement process, ultimately benefiting the consumers.

The establishment of the thermal power plant is also expected to give a major fillip to industrial growth in the state. With the availability of affordable electricity, entrepreneurs and industrialists will be encouraged to set up their units in Bihar, generating employment opportunities and boosting the state's economy.

The project has received the nod from the Ministry of Power, Government of India, which has endorsed the tendering process under the Tariff Policy 2016. The allocation of ₹21,400 crore for the project was announced in the Union Budget 2024, underscoring the Centre's commitment to Bihar's energy self-sufficiency.

The establishment of the 2400 MW thermal power plant marks a new era for Bihar's energy sector. As the state takes giant strides towards energy self-sufficiency, the benefits will be far-reaching, impacting every aspect of life in Bihar. From industries to households, the availability of affordable electricity will usher in a new era of growth and development.

In the words of Energy Minister Shri Bijendra Prasad Yadav, "This project is a testament to the state government's commitment to creating a favorable investment climate. We are confident that this project will not only ensure a reliable electricity supply but also contribute to reducing power costs, making Bihar an attractive destination for industries and entrepreneurs."

As Bihar embarks on this ambitious journey, one thing is clear – the state's energy landscape is poised for a transformative change, one that will have far-reaching implications for its residents, industries, and economy.
