Despite Numerous Prestigious Awards, Why Has Ratan Tata Not Been Bestowed the Bharat Ratna?
The Maharashtra government has made a big decision to get Ratan Tata the Bharat Ratna. India's one of most famous industrialists Ratan Tata passed away late last night on October 9. Ratan Tata, the honorary chairman of India's largest group Tata Group, was also given many awards for his contribution to the industry sector. In the year 2000, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan. In the year 2008, he was honored with the Padma Vibhushan. But he was not given the Bharat Ratna Award.
But, The Shinde government of Maharashtra has passed the proposal to honour Ratan Tata with the Bharat Ratna. The Maharashtra Cabinet on Thursday passed a proposal to urge the Centre to honour the late Ratan Tata with the country's highest civilian award 'Bharat Ratna'. Now the central government has to take a decision on this.

Why did Ratan Tata not get Bharat Ratna?
Industrialist Ratan Tata served the country for many years through the Tata Group. Ratan Tata not only increased the business of the Tata Group. Rather, he also did a lot of work for humanity. From time to time, he also donated a lot of money to the needy. During the Corona period, the Tata Group donated Rs 1500 crore. According to media reports, Ratan Tata has donated 60-70 percent of his earnings. And this is the reason why the countrymen have been demanding to give Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata.
Not only this, the hashtag #BharatRatnaForRatanTata was also run on social media. But the government has not honored him with Bharat Ratna. The government makes some parameters as the basis for Bharat Ratna. Under that, the Bharat Ratna award is given. Till now only one industrialist has been given Bharat Ratna in India. He too is from Ratan Tata's family. In the year 1992, Jahangir Ratan Ji Dadabhoy Tata i.e. JRD Tata was honored with Bharat Ratna.

In the year 2000, the Government of India honored him with Padma Bhushan, in 2004, the Republic of Uruguay London School of Economics and Political Science gave him the Medal of the Oriental, in 2008, the Government of India awarded him Padma Vibhushan, in the same year, the University of Cambridge awarded him the degree of Honorary Doctor of Law, in 2008, IIT, Bombay awarded him the title of Honorary Doctor of Science.
In 2008, IIT Kharagpur awarded him an Honorary Doctor of Science, in 2008, the Singapore Government gave him Honorary Citizen Award, in 2016, The Government of Assam honored him with Assam Baibhav, the state’s highest civilian award in 2021, the French Government honored him with Commander of the Legion of Honor, in 2023, King Charles III honored him with Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia, in 2023, the Maharashtra Government honored him with Udyog Ratna.
