Punjab First State to Offer Rs 25 Lakh Ex-Gratia to Injured Soldiers.
Chandigarh: In a significant move, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Wednesday approved an ex-gratia payment of Rs 21.50 crore for 86 Armed Forces personnel who have suffered physical injuries while serving the nation.
Chairing a meeting at his official residence, Mann directed the immediate disbursement of the funds, a pioneering initiative by his government to honor the sacrifices of these brave soldiers. He emphasized that Punjab is the only state in the country to offer such generous compensation, surpassing the ex-gratia provided by 70% of other states.
Bhagwat Mann further reiterated the state government's commitment to the welfare of soldiers and their families. Earlier this year, the government pledged Rs 1 crore to the families of martyred soldiers, a testament to their dedication to honoring the supreme sacrifice.
In other developments, the Chief Minister reaffirmed the state's commitment to revitalizing Sainik School Kapurthala. Spread across 190 acres, this historic institution will receive necessary maintenance and upkeep, with the state government already engaging with the Ministry of Defence for its management.
