Indian Coast Guard Lauded for Seamless Coordination in Tackling Cyclone 'Remal'
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has been commended for its exemplary synergy with central and state agencies in successfully managing the situation arising from Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) 'Remal'. The cyclone, which originated as a low-pressure area on May 22, rapidly intensified into an SCS before making landfall on the intervening night of May 26-27 on the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh.
The Headquarters of Coast Guard Region (North-East) initiated pre-emptive measures and coordinated with various central and state agencies, resulting in no loss of life or property at sea and effectively managing the cyclone's impact.
In anticipation of the cyclone's arrival, the ICG promptly deployed ships, aircraft, and shore-based surveillance systems to ensure proactive surveillance and strategic diversion of the entire merchant fleet from the storm's path. Timely alerts were broadcast from ICG's Remote Operating Stations at Haldia and Paradip, warning fishing boats and transiting merchant vessels of the impending cyclonic storm.
Following the SCS's landfall, ICG Ship Varad sailed from Paradip to conduct a post-cyclone assessment, while two ICG Dornier aircraft took off from Bhubaneswar and carried out comprehensive surveillance in the North Bay of Bengal.
The Coast Guard's swift deployment of assets and timely alerts played a crucial role in mitigating the potential impact of Cyclone 'Remal' on maritime activities and ensuring the safety of life and property at sea.
"The seamless coordination between the Indian Coast Guard and various central and state agencies is commendable," said [Official's Name and Designation]. "Their proactive measures and effective communication ensured that the cyclone's impact on maritime operations was minimized."
