India Successfully Tests Indigenous Man-Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile: A Leap in Defense Technology
DRDO's 'Made in India' MPATGM Demonstrates Precision and Versatility in Jaisalmer Field Trials, Enhancing India's Military Capabilities
India has successfully tested the indigenous man-portable anti-tank guided missile (MPATGM). This test was conducted at the field firing range in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The missile fired from the mounted launcher blew up the target. This missile has been made by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This missile can also be fired by keeping it on the shoulder.
The new 'Made in India' MPATGM is a portable missile system. DRDO has designed it to neutralize enemy tanks and armored vehicles. It can be fired at any time, day or night. This anti-tank guided missile is equipped with top attack capability and also has dual mode seeker functionality.
According to reports, successful trials of the missile were conducted on April 14. The entire system includes MPATGM, target acquisition system and fire control unit. During testing at Pokhran Field Firing Range, the missile successfully destroyed the target.
MPATGM are third generation anti-tank guided missiles. It is a lightweight, cylindrical missile with four fins. The missile has a highly explosive anti-tank (HEAT) charged warhead. The earlier MP-ATGM was launched from a tripod. The launcher of the one that has been tested now can also be fired by placing it on the shoulder. The range of this missile weighing about 15 kg can be from 200 meters to 4 kilometers.
