As part of the celebrations, a legal awareness programme will be organised for NSS students of Delhi University and K R Mangalam University. A self-defence demo on the safety of girls will be conducted by a special unit of Delhi Police for Women and Children. A representative advocate from the District Legal Services Authority (Central District) will discuss children’s rights and other important legal issues.
The programme will be held on October 11 at 2 pm at Auditorium Delhi Public Library (HQ), Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Marg, opposite Old Delhi Railway Station.
This year’s theme for International Day of the Girl Child is ‘Girls’ vision for the future’, conveying the need for urgent action and persistent hope driven by girls’ voices and vision.
“Today’s generation of girls is disproportionately affected by global crises of climate, conflict, poverty, and pushback on hard-won gains for human rights and gender equality,” said Vijay Gaur. “Girls cannot realise their potential alone. They need allies who listen to and respond to their needs.”
With the right support, resources, and opportunities, the potential of the world’s over 1.1 billion girls is limitless, Gaur added.
