Delhi Police’s mega event at Central Park against drug abuse under the vision of "Drug-Free Delhi by 2027"

Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, and Hon’ble Lt. Governor of Delhi, Delhi Police is committed to waging a war against Narcotics and implementing a Zero-Tolerance Policy towards drug-related crimes. The Delhi Police is determined to eradicate drug trafficking from its roots, ensuring a safer and healthier society.

Key Actions Against Drug Traffickers:-

Delhi Police continues its relentless crackdown on drug traffickers and suppliers operating in the capital. Daily operations include:

1. Arresting drug peddlers and seizing narcotics.

2. Seizing and freezing properties of traffickers under financial investigations under 68 F NDPS Act.

3. Preventive detention under the PITNDPS Act, dismantling the networks of active traffickers. 9th State-Level NCORD Meeting

Updates:-

The 9th State-Level NCORD Committee Meeting was held on 20th November 2024 under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Delhi. A subsequent review Meeting was chaired by Hon’ble LG, Delhi on 26th November 2024 at Raj Niwas, Delhi.

Key Outcomes of the Review Meeting:

• A strategic goal to achieve a "Drug-Free Delhi" within three years by 2027 through inter-departmental coordination.

• Launch of a "One-Month Comprehensive Campaign" from 1st December 2024 as a pilot project to intensify efforts against narcotics. Campaign Highlights Key activities under the campaign include:

• Surveys, awareness drives, and raids at vulnerable locations such as 200 hostels, 200 schools, 50 colleges, 200 pan shops, 200 pharmacies, and 200 bars/pubs/clubs.

• Random checks of auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers to curb drug trafficking.

• Involvement of hostel wardens, school principals, and university administrators to prevent drug incidents on premises.

Cash reward for Public:-

The Hon’ble LG has also announced cash rewards for general public for providing information on drug trafficking with the assurance of keeping the name secret and emphasized mass awareness through print, social media, radio, and public transport platforms. In its unwavering commitment to creating a "Drug-Free Delhi by 2027", Delhi Police organised a Drug Awareness Drive and Campaign on 7th December 2024 (Saturday) at 4:00 PM in Central Park, Connaught Place, New Delhi. This initiative aims to educate the public about the perils of drug abuse, inspire a collective stand against narcotics, and foster a sense of responsibility within the community.

Event Highlights:-

The event was designed to engage and educate through a variety of impactful activities, including:

• Delhi Police Band Performance: A captivating musical tribute to the fight against drugs.

• Street Plays (Nukkad Natak) by Ashmita Theatre Group: Emotionally stirring enactments on the devastating effects of drug addiction.

• Pantomime Show by team Arijit Roy: A silent yet powerful artistic expression highlighting the issue of drug abuse.

• Painting Exhibition: Featuring artwork by students emphasizing the theme of a drug-free society.

• Awareness Videos through Delhi Police Jan Sampark Vahan: Short films that provide insight into the consequences of drug use and measures to combat it.

• E-Pledges: An opportunity for attendees to digitally pledge their support for a drug-free future.

• Visual Displays: Informative exhibits showcasing the work of Delhi Police in combating narcotics and promoting awareness.

The event, aimed at educating the public and rallying support in the fight against drugs, was graced by Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Police (ANTF), Crime, Delhi, as the Chief Guest. Speaking to the audience, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastava highlighted the gravity of the drug abuse problem, not only as a threat to individuals but to society at large. “Drug abuse poses a significant threat to individuals and society, and this awareness drive is a crucial step toward building collective consciousness and encouraging active participation in eradicating this menace,” he stated.


He further emphasized the role of citizens in the fight against drugs, stressing that, “Delhi Police is committed to making the city drug-free, and we require the cooperation of every citizen in this mission. Through your support, we will help realize the vision of a ‘Nashamukt Bharat’ (Drug-Free India) as envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Amit Shah.”

He also addressed the global dimensions of the issue, pointing to the international drug trafficking chains that are linked to regions such as the “Death Crescent” and “Death Triangle.” “India is fully committed to fighting this war against drugs. Together, we will achieve a Drug-Free Delhi within three years,” Shri Srivastva declared. The event included engaging public interactions, performances, and educational sessions to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse, as well as the available resources for those seeking help.

The drive encouraged attendees to join hands with Delhi Police in spreading the message and taking action in their own communities. Shri Sanjay Bhatia, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi, gave the vote of thanks at the end of the event. He expressed gratitude to all the participants, performers, and media personnel who contributed to making the event a success.


He also issued an open invitation to all citizens, students, educators, and professionals to be part of this meaningful initiative, emphasizing that “the fight against drug abuse is not just an educational mission but also a demonstration of solidarity in creating a drug-free society.”
