Could Current Indian Car Market Be Making Tesla Jealous?
It may be a while before US-based business magnate Elon Musk is able to sell his Tesla in India even as he plans to shift manufacturing operations elsewhere, but that is, in no way, a reflection upon the auto-sector in the country. India has become one of the world's fastest growing car markets and there is much to show for it. A nod to that sentiment is the recent unveiling of Japanese manufacturer, Toyota Motor Corp's first mass market hybrid car, which is going to launch a new course in Indian automobile journey. The Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV will be Toyota's first car under its alliance with Suzuki Motor Corp. The new model is being considered an "ultimate game changer" in the electric vehicle space. However, Toyota isn't alone in showing off its optimistic approach. There is BMW Group India, which, on Wednesday, reported 64.2% growth in car sales between January and June 2022. This is a 50% increase for the company in comparison to what it showed during the corresponding period of the previous year. During the first half of the current year, Skoda Auto Volkswagen also posted profits amid strong sales volumes to the tune of 50,000+ units. In fact, Skoda earned its highest-ever sales in India in June 2022. During the first half of the current year, Skoda Auto Volkswagen has also shown profitable volumes in profits amid strong sales volumes to the tune of 50,000+ units. In fact, Skoda posted its highest-ever sales India sales in June 2022. Talking about a robust half half-yearly sales, Piyush Arora, Managing Director, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "….we are scripting a new success story in India. Our strong brand porftfolio is performing exceptionally well across market segments, with our INDIA 2.0 cars driving significant volumes for the Group." To round up this phase, which can clearly be called Tesla's loss and other manufacturers' gain, Ola's Bhavish Aggarwal has also commented, "Tesla is free to come in and put up shop here and sell its cars. They just want to be treated different from others, which I believe is not in the interests of India….. Tesla will not put a manufacturing plant in any location which we are not allowed first to sell & service cars." Photo -Social Media
