Building collapse in Bhiwandi: 4 dead, 1 guy rescued after 20 hours
Efforts are being made to find and rescue at least four to five more people who authorities suspect are trapped beneath the debris.
Four people have died as a result of the building collapse in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, after another body was found in the rubble by the National Disaster Relief Force and Thane Disaster Relief Force teams. The deceased has not yet been named.
Sunil Pisal, a 42-year-old resident, was the only one to be found alive in the rubble 20 hours later, around 8 on Sunday morning.
The relief and rescue effort persisted all night. After 20 hours, Sunil Pisal, 42, a resident, was extracted alive on the morning of sunday.
On Saturday at around 1pm in Vardhman Compound in Bal village, a Ground-plus-three-storey structure had collapsed in a heap. The 10-year-old structure housed a company's warehouse on two of its floors.
The rubble was said to be trapping 22 residents, of which 10 are injured and being treated at the IGM hospital in Bhiwandi, while four have been pronounced dead. Officials suspect at least four to five more people are trapped, and rescue operations are underway to find them.
The 10 injured were identified as Sonali Kamble, 22, Shiv Kumar Kamble, 2.6 years, Mukhtar Mansuri 26, Chiku Mahato, 5, Rince Mahato, 3, Vikaskumar Rajbhar, 18, Udaybhan Yadav, 25, Anita 30, Ujjwala Kamble, 30, and Sunil Pisal 42. The deceased were identified as Navnath Sawant 40, Lakshidevi Mahato 26 and Sona Kori, 5 years. One person is yet to be identified.
