One Sports Ground to Be Constructed in Every Gram Panchayat in Bihar This Financial Year
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Initiative to Boost Sports Infrastructure and Livelihood Opportunities in Rural Areas
The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has taken special steps in the field of sports in the state. The Rural Development Department has directed all the districts through letter no. 992 that at least one sports ground will be constructed in all the gram panchayats of the state in the current financial year. Under this scheme, structures for basketball, badminton, volleyball, running track and other sports will be constructed on a priority basis. For this, all necessary preparations, such as administrative and technical approval of the schemes, should be completed by 15 November 2024.
New guidelines have been issued in light of the suggestions given in the one-day orientation workshop held with the Deputy Development Commissioners on 16 October 2024. The Deputy Development Commissioner, Madhubani suggested that the construction of the Earthen Gallery will make it easier to follow the labor-material ratio under MNREGA, which will lead to more beneficial use of the sports structure. At the same time, the Deputy Development Commissioner, Munger has suggested increasing the proposed 06 feet running track to 08 feet.
Along with this, instructions have also been given to provide the benefits of personal benefit schemes under Mahatma Gandhi NREGA to the poorest section first. In this sequence, all the districts have been directed to take action to provide the benefits of this scheme on a priority basis to the eligible beneficiaries of Jeevika's Sustainable Livelihood Scheme.
Apart from this, the District Project Manager Jeevika has been directed to provide the list of beneficiaries who have land available for goat rearing, poultry farming, cow/buffalo rearing, or pig rearing to the program officer of the concerned block. The implementation of schemes for the construction of cattle sheds will be ensured under the provisions of MNREGA by selecting eligible beneficiaries from the members of the milk-producing cooperative society under the state.
Through this initiative, the state government is trying to promote sports and livelihood in rural areas.
