The Indian team has announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, in which experienced players like Mohammed Shami and Shreyas Iyer have returned. Also, the ongoing controversy over the captaincy of Team India seems to be stopping for the time being. Rohit Sharma will remain the captain of the team, while Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team. This appointment indicates that Shubman Gill is being prepared as the future captain of the Indian cricket team.

Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain of Team India along with Rohit Sharma on the Australia tour. He also captained the team in Perth and Sydney, but Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain for the Champions Trophy. In such a situation, the question arises whether Shubman is going to be Rohit's successor.

To some extent, this is also correct. Although Bumrah is in the Champions Trophy team, there is doubt on him whether he will play or not. Because he was injured during the Sydney Test. In such a situation, the team management has insisted on making a player who is at the top in terms of fitness as the vice-captain and he should also be prepared as a captain for the future. This is the reason why Shubman has become the first choice for the vice-captaincy.

Shubman Gill has been playing in all three formats for Team India for a long time. Talking about Bumrah, he has been taking breaks from time to time due to workload and fitness. This is the reason why the team management wanted to see a player as the vice-captain who can be continuously available for all three formats and Shubman is fully fit for that.

Shubman Gill is just 25 years old. At the same time, Rohit Sharma's captaincy will depend on his performance in the Champions Trophy. In such a situation, the BCCI wants to see a player as the captain who is likely to play for a long time. In terms of age, Rohit is 37 years old. This is the reason why an initiative has been started to prepare Shubman Gill for the future by making him the vice-captain.

Most people are not able to understand Shubman Gill being made the vice-captain. This decision is being seen from a different perspective and pundits are talking about it. However, in the press conference, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar told why Gill was given this responsibility.

Agarkar said, "Gill was also the vice-captain of the team in Sri Lanka. You are always looking for a leader. I would not like to speak much on this subject, but the reaction of the dressing room also matters a lot to reach such a decision."

By the way, there was no discussion about Shubman Gill anywhere. There was even a discussion that Yashasvi Jaiswal should be played in his place in the final eleven, but now by making him the vice-captain, all the questions and discussions have gone away. 25-year-old Gill, who plays for Punjab in domestic cricket, has already cemented his place in all three formats. He has scored 2328 runs in 47 ODIs at an average of 58.20. With this average, Gill has emerged as a natural leader on and off the field.
