Bihar Government's Commitment to Sports: ‘Medal Lao-Naukri Pao’ Scheme Empowers Athletes with Jobs and Infrastructure Development
Under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Leadership, Medal-Winning Athletes Receive Direct Government Jobs and Enhanced Training Facilities
The Bihar government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is continuously working to promote sports and encourage players. The state government is fully committed to the all-round development of sports and players. Shri Nitish Kumar announced in 2010 that the government will give them jobs if players win medals in sports competitions. Under this, 271 players were given clerical jobs, including 33 players in the year 2010, 125 players in the year 2011, 82 players in the year 2015 and 31 players in the year 2020.
To increase the interest of youth in sports in the state, the state government has made Bihar Outstanding Sportspersons Direct Appointment Rules, 2023 ' on the lines of the ‘Medal Lao-Naukri Pao’ scheme. Provision has been made to give appointments in government departments to outstanding players who win national and international medals in various sports competitions. Under this, in the year 2023-24, under the Medal Lao-Naukri Pao scheme, 71 outstanding players were given direct appointment letters for class one government jobs in various government departments without examination and interview. So far, 342 players have been given jobs in Bihar.
When Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar was the Railway Minister in the central government led by revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee, at that time he had made arrangements to give jobs to players in the railways. Under this arrangement, so far hundreds of players from across the country have been given jobs in the railways. Getting jobs in the railways has boosted the enthusiasm of the players. On the lines of giving jobs to players in the railways, Shri Nitish Kumar started giving government jobs to the players who performed excellently in Bihar from the year 2010. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar, now to increase the interest of youth towards sports in the state, the state government has made ‘Bihar Outstanding Sportspersons Direct Appointment Rules, 2023' on the lines of Medal Lao-Naukri Pao. Under this, players who get medals in national and international sports competitions will be given direct jobs. According to this new rule, players will get a chance to become SDO and DSP on performing well. Under this rule, recently 71 players have been given jobs, of which 2 have been given the job of officer, which includes Child Development Project Officer and Block Panchayati Raj Officer. 69 have been given the jobs of Sub Inspector of Police, Superintendent in the Social Welfare Department and Data Entry Operator and Clerk.
Sports are being promoted in Bihar. For this, sports facilities are being developed at every level so that children can study and play as well. Stadiums are being constructed at the block level in the state, in which construction of about 250 stadiums has been completed so far. Players are being sent outside the state for better training.
