Chandigarh, August 16, 2024: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Partap Singh, posted at Merado police post under Ludhiana Sadar police station, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.

According to an official spokesperson of the state VB, the arrest was made based on a complaint lodged by Gurjit Rai, a resident of Shimlapuri in Ludhiana city. The complainant alleged that ASI Partap Singh, who was investigating a case against him, had taken possession of his mobile phone, laptop, and documents without documentation. The ASI demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 to return the seized articles, and had already taken Rs 20,000 as the first installment.

The VB team laid a trap and arrested ASI Partap Singh while he was accepting the remaining bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the ASI at VB police station Ludhiana range. He will be produced in court tomorrow, and further investigation is underway.
