UP Government Welcomes Supreme Court's Guidelines to Curb Bulldozer Action, Emphasizes Rule of Law
Supreme Court Decision Seen as a Step Toward Reinforcing Good Governance and Curbing Organized Crime
The Yogi government of UP has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to put a brake on bulldozer action and issue guidelines for the whole country. According to information received from sources, the state government says that the first condition of good governance is the rule of law. From this point of view, the decision given by the Hon'ble Supreme Court today is welcomed. This decision will create fear of the law in the minds of criminals. Also, it will be easy to rein in mafia elements and organized professional criminals.
According to sources, the state government says that the rule of law applies to all. Although this order was in the context of Delhi, the Uttar Pradesh government was not a party to it. The Supreme Court has given this verdict in the case related to Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind vs North Delhi Municipal Corporation and others.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court compared 'bulldozer justice' to a state of anarchy and issued guidelines for the whole country, saying that no property should be bulldozed without giving a show cause notice. Also, the affected people should be given 15 days to respond. The court said that the authorities cannot punish citizens by demolishing their property without following due process.
The Supreme Court termed such excesses as "arbitrary" and said that it needed to be dealt with strictly. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Vishwanathan termed the scene of a building being demolished with a bulldozer and women, children and elderly people being rendered homeless overnight as "horrific".
