UP Government Cracks Down on Food Adulteration: CM Yogi Orders Strict Measures

Thorough Inspections of Hotels and Restaurants Ordered to Ensure Public Health; CCTV Monitoring and Employee Verification to Be Enforced Statewide

UP's Yogi Adityanath government has taken a tough stance on the incident of urine and spit in food items. CM Yogi has also directed strict action to prevent adulteration in food and beverages. In a high-level meeting, CM Yogi also directed for a thorough inspection and verification of all hotels, dhabas, restaurants and other related establishments in the state and necessary amendments in the rules to ensure the health and safety of the general public.

CM Yogi directed the meeting that in recent days, incidents of adulteration of human waste and dirty things in food items like juice, dal and roti have been witnessed in different parts of the country. Such incidents are horrific and have adverse effects on the health of the common man. Such vile attempts cannot be accepted. Solid measures should be taken to prevent such incidents in Uttar Pradesh. Such dhabas, restaurants etc. catering establishments should be checked.

Verification of all employees including the operators of these establishments should be conducted by conducting an intensive campaign across the state. This action should be carried out by a joint team of the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Police and Local Administration. He said that the names and addresses of the operators, proprietors and managers should be prominently displayed on catering establishments. The Food Safety and Standards Act should also be amended in this regard. All dhabas, hotels, restaurants etc. catering establishments should have CCTV. Not only the seating area of the customers but also other parts of the establishment should be covered with CCTV. Ensure that every establishment operator will secure the CCTV feed and make it available to the police or local administration if required.

CM Yogi said that there should be cleanliness at the catering centres. Ensure that the person concerned must use masks and gloves during food preparation and service. There should be no negligence. The health interests of the general public cannot be compromised in any way. Strictest action should be taken against those who attempt to do so. Regulations relating to the manufacture, sale and other related activities of foodstuffs should be further tightened with practicality in mind. Violations of the rules should be taken immediately.
