In Assam, 8 coaches of train number 2520 Agartala-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express suddenly derailed, including the power car and the engine. The good thing is that there is no news of anyone being killed or seriously injured in this accident.
The accident took place at around 4 pm in the Lumding-Borderpur Hill Section of Lumding Division. According to the CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, "Eight coaches including the power car and engine of the train derailed." However, the relief is that no one has suffered any serious injuries.
Railway statement: Railway officials said that the accident relief train and medical aid train with a team of senior officials have left Lumding for the spot for rescue and restoration operations. Due to the accident, the operation of trains on the Lumding-Badarpur single line section has been temporarily stopped.
Helpline numbers have been issued in Lumding - 03674 263120, 03674 263126. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government is coordinating with the railways over the incident. The incident comes a week after 12 coaches of a long-distance express train derailed after colliding with a freight train at Kavarapettai in Tamil Nadu on October 11. There were no casualties in that incident either.
The accident occurred around 8.30 pm when the 12578 Bagmati Express train from Mysore in Karnataka to Darbhanga in Bihar collided with a stationary freight train after crossing Ponneri station. Railway officials said the train appeared to have accidentally entered the loop line where the freight train was parked.
