Royal Global school team earns direct qualification to Final round of CCCC 2024
IIT Guwahati Teams Sweep Top 3 Spots in North East Zonal Round of National Inter-College Crossword Competition
Three teams from IIT Guwahati claim the top three positions in the North East zonal round of the National Inter college Crossword Expedition (NICE) 2024 organized on Thursday at New Arts Players Auditorium in Guwahati. With this victory, all of them have qualified for the contest's Grand Finale and will represent the northeast zone among other qualifiers from across the country.
The contest began with the written prelims. Top-scoring teams advanced to the On-stage round in which the following students grabbed the top spot in the leaderboard-
• Rank-1: Rithey Maria George and Kamleshwari T.S (IIT-Guwahati)
• Rank-2: KirhenBhagavath S and YouktaMandavkar (IIT-Guwahati)
• Rank-3: ShrawonDey and Chaitanya Chhabra (IIT-Guwahati)
NICE-2024, a collaborative effort of AICTE, IIT-Madras, IIM-Mumbai and Extra-C a distinguished non-profit organization promoting extracurricular activities among young minds in general and cryptic crosswords in particular, for a decade.
The Grand Finale of NICE 2024 will be held in New Delhi, where all the top three teams from all the five zones each vizNoth, East, West, South and North-East, will compete for the coveted trophy.
Royal Global School Students Shine Bright In The Contest
Two teams from the Royal Global School and one from the Maria’s Public School scored highest in the written prelims and grabbed the prizes. The top three teams are as follows-
Rank-1: PrayashKalita and Kreesha Jain (Royal Global School)
Rank-2: Shaurya Jain and Jugarka Kaushik (Royal Global School)
Rank-3: Anannyam Loy Barooah and DevorathaRanjanKakoti (Maria’s Public School)
The winning team of Prayash and Kreesha has also earned direct qualification for the final round of the national inter-school Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC 12.0).
A quick workshop session was conducted by the celebrated cruciverbalistMrOchintyaShamra to brush up the cryptic crossword basics of the students. The session helped participants to perform better during the contest.
Sri PabanBorthakur, Chairman, RERA-Bihar graced the event as the Chief Guest. He blessed the participants and underlined the importance of such events for the benefit of the cognitive development of the students. Sri PS Changmai, IGP (Border), Assam, and a significant pillar of the Crosswords Association of Assam congratulated the winners and ensured more such events shortly.
Contributions of the volunteers from the Assam Police made the event a success.
