Chandigarh: Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training Minister Aman Arora announced that the state government will introduce a comprehensive policy for skill development in the Aerospace and Defence (A&D) sector. This move aims to establish Punjab as a leader in the defence industry and create a conducive environment for long-term growth and sustainability.

Arora made this announcement while addressing a conclave on Skill Development for the A&D and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sectors, organized by the Centre for Training and Employment of Punjab Youth (C-PYTE) in association with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) Northern Region.

He directed the Principal Secretary, Employment Generation, Skill Development, and Training, Mrs. Jaspreet Talwar, and Director-General, C-PYTE, Major General Rambir Mann, to form a group comprising all stakeholders to draft a policy for skill development within the A&D and MSME sectors.

Arora emphasized that the policy would exploit the potential of the A&D sector to provide maximum job opportunities for the youth of Punjab. He highlighted that most private industry jobs in aerospace are in civil aviation, general aviation, military aircraft, and missiles, communication satellites, and military and commercial launch vehicles.

The minister wooed industry leaders to invest in the defence sector, citing Punjab's rich legacy in the field and its huge potential for growth. He mentioned that the state offers various incentives, a robust infrastructure, including two international airports at Mohali and Amritsar, domestic airports at Ludhiana, Bathinda, and Jalandhar, and one of the largest airforce bases in India at Adampur.

Arora added that Punjab has strong R&D support for advanced manufacturing, a large MSME base for engineering, focused educational infrastructure, and established aviation clubs, making it an attractive destination for investment in the defence sector.
