The Punjab State Election Commission has declared December 21, 2024, as a public holiday within the jurisdiction of municipal bodies going to polls. This move aims to enable workers of shops, factories, and commercial establishments to cast their votes.

According to an official spokesperson, special leave will be granted to government employees and other workers who are voters in these municipal bodies but employed elsewhere. Additionally, schools whose buildings are being used for election purposes will also observe a holiday.

The Punjab government has declared December 21 as a 'Close Day' under the Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, and the Factories Act, 1948. This will allow workers to exercise their franchise.

Furthermore, December 21 has been declared a "Dry Day" in the revenue jurisdiction of the municipal bodies going to polls.

The Punjab State Election Commission has made necessary arrangements to ensure free and fair polls. Voters are encouraged to exercise their franchise.
