Chandigarh: In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's directive to create a drug-free Punjab, the Punjab Police has launched a special awareness campaign to build public unity and collaboration in tackling this critical issue.

This campaign will see Commissioners of Police and Senior Superintendents of Police (CPs/SSPs) across districts organize various events. These events aim to engage the public, youth, NGOs, and clubs in the fight against drugs.

The campaign will feature a variety of activities, including basketball tournaments, kabaddi and cricket matches, volleyball and football games, cyclothons, awareness camps, dramas, street plays (nukkad nataks), marathons, seminars, and public meetings.

The initiative kicked off with "The Fateh Cup" – an inclusive basketball tournament – organized by the Fatehgarh Sahib Police at the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College on Saturday.

SSP Fatehgarh Sahib, Dr. Ravjot Kaur Grewal, described the event as a way to raise awareness about drug addiction. She highlighted how sports can bring the community together, particularly the youth, by promoting teamwork, discipline, and healthy living.

The well-attended event featured 16 matches played by 17 teams. These teams included four under-14 boys' teams, five under-17 boys' teams, four under-17 girls' teams, and four senior men's teams.

Dr. Ravjot emphasized that the Fateh Cup served not just as a competition but also as a significant step towards spreading awareness about the dangers of drug use. The initiative, she added, underscores the Fatehgarh Sahib Police's commitment to safeguarding community well-being.

Expressing gratitude to all participants, the SSP said the overwhelming response signifies a collective resolve to eliminate drug addiction and promote a culture of health and vitality.
