Punjab Police Bust Two Cross-Border Drug Rings, Seize 9.2 kg Heroin

Three Smugglers Arrested in Separate Operations, Linked to Pakistan-Based Networks Using Drones

In the midst of the ongoing war on drugs, which is being carried out at the behest of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab Police have arrested three drug traffickers and seized 9.2 kg (8.2 kg+1 kg) of heroin from the operation of two distinct cross-border drug smuggling cartels run by smugglers based in Pakistan. 

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav divulged details of the first operation, stating that Police Station Chheharta teams, led by ADCP CITY-2 Abhimanyu Rana, apprehended two drug smugglers from the Shiva Enclave area in Rajasansi area after receiving credible information. 

They also discovered 8.2 kg of heroin in their possession. The people that were taken into custody are Sunny from Guru ki Wadali in Chheharta and Bachitar Singh from the village of Jathaul in Amritsar. In the PS Gharinda murder case, Accused Bachitar Singh was declared an offender from 2021. In addition to seizing their Swift automobile, police teams have seized 8.2 kilos of heroin, Rs 95,000 in narcotics money, and one electronic weighing machine. 

At Police Station Chheharta in Amritsar, a case FIR No. 100 dated June 27, 2024, has been filed under sections 21-C and 23/29 of the NDPS Act. According to DGP Gaurav Yadav, police teams from Police Station Ranjit Avenue laid a Nakabandi at the Ranjit Avenue Bypass in response to intelligence inputs. They also detained Amandeep Singh from the Amritsar village of Ranian, Lopoke, and seized one kilogram of heroin from him. He said that his Volkswagen Vento, which he was driving, had also been seized by police. 

Under section 21-C of the NDPS Act, a case FIR no. 91 dated 26/06/2024 has been filed in this respect at Police Station Ranjit Avenue in Amritsar. Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Ranjit Singh Dhillon provided additional information, stating that early investigations revealed the accused individuals had direct contact with smugglers operating out of Pakistan who were transporting drugs into the state using drones. 

According to him, more inquiries are being made to look into the cases' backward and forward connections in an effort to identify the entire network of drug suppliers, dealers, and purchasers. The CP stated that efforts are on to determine the overall quantity of drugs that the detained suspected individuals had obtained up to this point.
