Malkit Singh Becomes the First Male Beneficiary of Punjab's Revised Acid Attack Victim Policy
The government has been giving pensions to women victims of acid attacks for a long time. But now the government is going to give pensions to men suffering from acid attacks as well. This has been announced by the Punjab government. The Punjab government is going to give a pension of eight thousand rupees per month to men suffering from acid attacks.
Malkit Singh, a victim of acid attacks, informed the High Court that in the year 2017, the Punjab government had made an acid attack victim policy, in which only women who were victims of acid attacks were said to be given a pension of 8 thousand rupees every month. But now the government has decided that pensions will also be given to male victims.
The victim Malkit Singh had filed a petition in the court. During the hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Punjab government put forward its decision. The Punjab government also presented the check of the arrears to be given to the victim before the court. Malkit Singh is a resident of Dhuri in Sangrur district.
Malkit Singh is the first acid attack victim in the country for whom the Punjab government has made a pension provision. This information was given to the media by Malkit Singh's lawyer HC Arora. Malkit Singh, while presenting his case in the court, said that the Punjab government had made a policy in the year 2017, in which only women who were victims of acid attacks were mentioned to get a pension of Rs 8,000 every month, but now they are also going through this problem, so the government should also give them a pension, after which on the order of the court, the Punjab government agreed to give pension to Malkit Singh.
Malkit Singh was a truck driver by profession. On 22 July 2011, when he went to collect his earnings from his owner Baldev Singh, the owner threw acid on Malkit Singh from the roof of the house, due to which Malkit Singh was completely burnt and he also lost vision in both his eyes.
