Punjab Expands Green Energy Portfolio with New Solar Power Projects
54 MW Added to Grid, Boosting State's Solar Capacity to 2081 MW; 2850 MW More Under Development
The 50 MW solar power project erected by M/s SAEL Limited in the village of Karamgarh, Malout, has been synchronized, and solar power has begun to flow into the 220 KV Grid substation Katorewala, according to Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO. PEDA was given four 4 MW solar power projects to be installed in Punjab at a cost of Rs. 2.748/kWh. The 4 MW solar power project in Tarkhanwala, Bathinda, is one of them. It has also been synchronized with the PSPCL 66 KV Grid substation Sekhon.
He continued by saying that the State of Punjab currently has 2081 MW of installed solar power projects overall as a result of the synchronization of these projects. Additionally, he stated that 2850 MW of solar power projects are currently under commission.
Notably, the 54 MW Solar electricity Projects would produce over 3 lakh units of green energy per day. The solar electricity produced by these projects will be made available to farmers in the State during the day and used for agricultural purposes.
The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has made great progress in advancing renewable energy sources and satisfying the state's increasing demand for electricity. The company completed deals with solar power companies in June 2022 in order to purchase 250 MW of solar power at a competitive price of Rs. 2.65/kWh.
The minister of electricity reaffirmed the government of Punjab's pledge to provide its citizens with affordable, dependable, and high-quality power while also increasing the proportion of clean, green, and low-tariff renewable energy.
"These new solar power projects represent a significant step towards our goal of a greener Punjab," said the minister. "We are addressing our power needs and contributing to the national objective of reducing carbon emissions."
