New rule in India's cleanest city Indore, FIR will be lodged on giving money to beggars
Strict order of administration will be implemented from January 1, pilot project of central government started for rehabilitation;
India's cleanest city Indore now wants to be free of beggars. The city has decided to take a big step to ensure this. From January 1, the district administration will start filing FIRs against anyone found giving money to beggars. Under the pilot project of the central government, efforts are being made to make Indore, the cleanest city in the country, beggar-free.
District Collector Ashish Singh told media persons that the administration has already issued an order banning begging in Indore. He said, 'Our awareness campaign against begging will continue till the end of this month. If any person is found begging from January 1, an FIR will also be filed against him.' Also, from January 1, an FIR will be filed against any person found giving money to beggars.
The officer said, ‘I appeal to all the residents of Indore not to become a partner in sin by giving alms to people.’ Under a pilot project of the Central Government for the rehabilitation of beggars, efforts are being made to free the streets of Indore from beggars. This project also includes 10 cities Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna and Ahmedabad.
During the campaign, the Indore administration has also made some shocking revelations. Project officer Dinesh Mishra said, ‘When we prepare the report, we find that some beggars have a concrete house, while some children work in banks. Once we found a beggar with Rs 29,000. Another beggar lent money and took interest. A gang had come here from Rajasthan with children to beg. They were rescued from a hotel where they were staying.'
Madhya Pradesh's Social Welfare Minister Narayan Singh Kushwaha said that an Indore-based organisation has come forward to support the government's efforts. He said, 'The organisation will shelter them for six months and try to find work for them. We are working tirelessly to free people from begging.'
