National Legal Services Authority Organizes Successful 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2024

NALSA's 2nd National Lok Adalat offered accessible dispute resolution across 20 states. Over 7.7 lakh cases settled in a single day, promoting affordable justice for all.

The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) successfully organized the 2nd National Lok Adalat of 2024 on May 11th, 2024, across Taluks, Districts, and High Courts in 20 states and union territories: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, Sikkim, Tripura, and Uttarakhand. This initiative promotes a justice system that is affordable, accessible, and inclusive.

Under the leadership of Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, Judge, Supreme Court of India, and Executive Chairman, NALSA, this Lok Adalat provided a platform for dispute resolution through conciliation and amicable settlements. Lok Adalats in other states will be scheduled after the Lok Sabha elections conclude.

As of 6:00 PM on May 11th, 2024, a significant number of 7,71,187 cases were settled at the 2nd National Lok Adalat. This includes 3,21,959 pre-litigation cases and 4,49,228 pending cases related to compoundable criminal offenses, traffic challans, revenue matters, bank recovery, motor accident claims, cheque dishonorment, labor disputes, matrimonial disputes (excluding divorce), land acquisition, intellectual property or consumer issues, and other civil cases. The estimated total settlement amount in these cases is Rs. 2733.79 crores. This number is expected to rise as reports from some State Legal Services Authorities are awaited.

The successful disposal of these cases reflects the effectiveness of the National Lok Adalat and NALSA's commitment to providing comprehensive legal solutions that are equitable, just, and easily accessible to all sections of society.
