Kolkata Crime : Woman's Body Found in Trolley Bag on Kolkata Outskirts

Police in Kolkata are investigating after the body of a young woman was found inside a trolley bag on Tuesday in the northern suburb of Baguihati.

According to local residents, the bag was first noticed Monday night, but was ignored until the following morning when a newspaper vendor became suspicious upon seeing it still in the same location. The vendor consulted with a senior citizen before they decided to contact authorities.

When police arrived and opened the bag, they discovered the body of a young woman dressed in a salwar kurta with her lips sealed with brown tape. The body has been sent for autopsy.

"Prima facie, it seems that the woman was murdered somewhere else, and then her body was placed in the trolley bag, and finally, the bag was dumped at the roadside," an investigating official told reporters. "Our prime aim is to know the identity of the woman."

Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and checking missing persons reports from various police stations to help identify the victim and find potential leads.

This incident follows another disturbing case from February this year, when two women—a mother and daughter—were arrested at the Ganges River in north Kolkata while attempting to dispose of a trolley bag containing the headless, dismembered body of an elderly female relative.
