Indian Railways to Run Over 250 Special Trains for Diwali from Today to Manage Festive Rush

There is a huge crowd at the railway station of people going home for Diwali and Chhath Puja. Two days ago, there was a stampede at Mumbai's Bandra railway station during the Diwali rush, in which many people were injured. Because of this, the Railways has announced that they will run special trains for Diwali starting today, Tuesday.

Indian Railways said that more than 250 special trains will be run for the festival of Diwali and Chhath Puja, including more than 120 trains on Tuesday, 29 October. About 40 of these trains will be managed by the Mumbai Division, of which 22 will go specifically to popular destinations in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Odisha.

According to the Indian Railways, these special trains will run along with regular operations, and many additional coaches have been added to them to meet the festive rush and passenger demand. Western Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Vineet Abhishek said, 'This is part of our commitment to meet the increasing demand of passengers during this busy time.'

He said, 'We are closely monitoring these additional services at both divisional and headquarters levels and are checking the waiting list of trains daily in real-time.' Eastern Railway announced on Monday that it is running 50 special trains and providing 400 additional services during Diwali and Chhath Puja.

Eastern Railway Public Relations Officer Kaushik Mitra said that Eastern Railway has increased the number of special trains from 33 to 50 this year. Mitra said, 'Eastern Railway is running more trains this year than last year for this festive season - Diwali and Chhath. Last year the number of special trains was 33, which has increased to 50 this year.'
