Former ISI Chief Faiz Hameed Detained by Pakistani Army Amid Court Martial Proceedings
Ex-Intelligence Head Faces Charges Under Pakistan Army Act in Top City Housing Scheme Scandal
Former chief of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI Faiz Hameed was detained by the army on Monday. Action has been started against Lieutenant General (Retired) Faiz Hameed under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act. According to the information given by the ISPR, Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody. After which the process of his court martial has been started in connection with the Top City Housing Scheme scam.
A press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that former Pakistan intelligence chief Faiz Hameed has been arrested by the Army. In fact, "Following the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a team of the Pakistani Army had investigated to find out the complaints made against former Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed in the Top City case, in which many cases have come to light against Faiz Ahmed.
The ISPR further said, "Apart from this, many cases of violation of the Pakistan Army Act have also come to light after Faiz Ahmed retired. After which disciplinary action has been initiated against retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed. At present, the process of Field General Court Martial has been started. This is the first time that court-martial proceedings have been initiated against a former intelligence chief of Pakistan.
The Pakistani Army had reportedly constituted an inquiry committee in April to investigate allegations of misuse of position against the former spy chief and the head of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
In its written order issued on November 14, 2023, last year, the Supreme Court of Pakistan said that the allegations against former spy chief retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed are of an "extremely serious nature". If they are proved true, they will damage the reputation of the country's armed forces, ISI and Pakistan Rangers, so they cannot be ignored.
The management of the private housing scheme Top City had made serious allegations against the former ISI chief, claiming that he had raided the offices and houses of its owner Moiz Khan. Following this, in November 2023, the Supreme Court had asked the housing society owner to approach the concerned departments, including the Ministry of Defence, to settle his grievances against the former spy chief and his associates.
