Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU) sponsored an India-Bangladesh border trip under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. The trip took place between January 8th and 12th, 2024, with 48 students and teaching/non-teaching staff participating.

The group visited the Bongaon Petrapol Border under the guidance and supervision of Mr. Parmanand, a BSF official. He provided an insightful introduction to the Indo-Bangladesh Border and discussed the role of the BSF in securing this crucial area.

At the border, the group visited the retreat ceremony point, capturing selfies and photos as a memento. They then proceeded to the immigration/emigration hall, where they were introduced to the border crossing procedures. The group also observed the movement of goods through trucks in the cargo area and learned about the passenger train service operating twice a week. Finally, they visited the fenced border area separating India and Bangladesh.

During the trip, the students and staff learned that many Bangladeshis seek medical treatment in India through this border. This sparked discussions about the potential roles DPSRU students could play in improving healthcare access in the region, such as pharmacists, medical laboratory technicians, health management team members, and research scientists. The possibility of utilizing telemedicine to reduce travel requirements for Bangladeshi patients was also raised by a member of the group.

In addition to the border visit, the DPSRU students also enjoyed cultural excursions in Kolkata, visiting iconic landmarks like the Victoria Memorial, Indian Museum, Birla Planetarium, Prinsep Ghat, and Kalighat Temple.
