Delhi: PWD Minister Atishi Takes Swift Action to Address Waterlogging Issue at Dhaula Kuan Flyover

In a bid to resolve the recurring problem of waterlogging under the Dhaula Kuan flyover on Ring Road, PWD Minister Atishi conducted a surprise inspection on Tuesday and directed officials to implement immediate and long-term solutions.

The unexpected rainfall on August 23 exposed the vulnerabilities of the existing drainage system, leading to water accumulation under the flyover. PWD engineers attributed the issue to the bowl-shaped stretch, which causes water from adjoining roads to collect due to the slope.

Minister Atishi emphasized the importance of upgrading the drainage system to handle 100 mm rainfall per hour and increasing pumping capacity through mobile pumps. She stressed that Dhaula Kuan and surrounding roads are critical routes in Delhi, requiring prompt attention to prevent waterlogging.

"We will not tolerate any laxity in addressing waterlogging issues, especially on critical routes like Dhaula Kuan. Our aim is to provide a seamless commuting experience for Delhiites," said PWD Minister Atishi.

The PWD department has been tasked with executing both short-term and long-term measures to ensure a smooth commute. The minister's directives are expected to bring relief to commuters who have been facing waterlogging woes in the area.

The inspection and subsequent directives come as part of the Delhi government's efforts to strengthen the city's infrastructure and address civic issues. With the monsoon season still underway, the move is seen as a proactive step towards mitigating waterlogging problems in the capital.
