Delhi Metro Phase 4 to Begin Operations from August with New Janakpuri-RK Ashram Section
The first 3-km stretch of the ambitious expansion project is complete, with two new stations set to open to public; entire Phase 4 expected by March 2026
The much-awaited Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro is all set to begin its services in August. The first section of this phase, a three-km stretch from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg, is all set to open with two brand new stations. With civil works complete, final safety checks and inspections are underway before the corridor becomes operational.
According to media reports, Delhi Metro spokesperson Anuj Dayal said that the section is part of the larger Phase 4 project spanning over 28.9 km. Work on the Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension corridor is almost over. Now the focus is on completing the remaining work and ensuring safety.
The Janakpuri West part of the new corridor will be elevated. While the Krishna Park Extension section will be at ground level. The entire Phase 4 project is on track with the hope of being fully operational by March 2026. Which promises better connectivity across the city.
Under Phase 4, three major corridors are in the pipeline: Majlis Park to Maujpur (12.5 km), Airport to Tughlakabad (23.6 km), and the soon-to-be-opened Janakpuri West to RK Ashram (28.9 km) section.
In addition, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun the process of obtaining statutory clearances for two newly sanctioned corridors under Phase IV. These corridors, from Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, are expected to benefit an additional 2.5 lakh commuters per day.
With a budget of Rs 8,399 crore, they are targeted to be completed by 2028. They will further expand the metro network and enhance connectivity in south, central and east Delhi.
