Cyclonic Storm Fangal Threatens South India: IMD Issues Alert for Heavy Rains and Strong Winds

There is a threat of cyclonic storm Fangal in South India. An alert has been issued by the Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding this. The department informed that the deep pressure formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal appeared almost stable during the last 06 hours. During the next 12 hours, it is very likely to move towards north-northwest touching the Sri Lankan coast.

After this, it will continue to move towards north-northwest. The deep pressure will cross the north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around the morning of November 30. At this time the wind speed will range from 50-60 kmph to 70 kmph. By the morning of 29 November 2024, the wind in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal can increase from 65-75 kmph to 85 kmph.

• The Meteorological Department said that the wind speed may increase from 50-60 kmph to 70 kmph.
• The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is in alert mode. It is engaged in ensuring the safety of sailors amid bad weather. The ICG has issued an alert and advised fishing boats to return to the ports.
• The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has issued an alert. According to this, heavy to very heavy rains may occur for various coastal districts including Chennai on Thursday.
• Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at some places in the northern coastal area of ​​​​Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on 29 and 30 November. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the coastal area of ​​​​Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

Officials said that four people, including two children, have died due to bad weather after heavy rains in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal, while many others are missing. More than 2.30 lakh people have been affected in Sri Lanka.
