Court Extends Mumbai Attack Plotter Tahawwur Rana's NIA Custody by 12 Days
Pakistani-Origin Canadian Businessman Continues to Face Interrogation After Extradition from US on April 10 for Role in 2008 Terror Attack;

NIA remand of Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, ended on Monday, after which he was produced in the Patiala House Court. The National Investigative Agency appealed to the court to extend the remand of terrorist Tahawwur by 12 more days. After the hearing, the court reserved its decision on this. However, later the court sent Tahawwur Rana to NIA custody for 12 days. Let us tell you that on April 10, the accused Tahawwur Rana was brought to India from America through extradition.
After being brought to India, he was produced before the bench of Special NIA Judge Chandrajit Singh, after which the court sent him to NIA custody for 18 days. According to the information, accused Tahawwur Rana is being interrogated at the NIA office in Delhi for the last 18 days. This interrogation is being done by the Crime Branch of Mumbai Police. Crime Branch officials say that Rana was not cooperating in the interrogation. Let us tell you that Tahawwur Rana was arrested by the FBI in Chicago, America in 2009.
On April 24, Delhi's Patiala House Court rejected the petition of accused Tahawwur Rana, in which he had demanded to talk to his family. Tahawwur's lawyer had argued in the court that being a foreign citizen, Rana has the right to talk to his family. However, the NIA opposed this.
Let us tell you that Tahawwur Rana is a Canadian citizen, who is originally Pakistani. He used to work as a doctor in the Pakistani Army. After this, in the year 1997, he went from Pakistan to Canada, where he started working as a businessman providing immigration services. From here he also reached America.
David Coleman Headley, the main conspirator of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, and Tahawwur Rana were childhood friends. Tahawwur Rana had helped David Headley in carrying out the terrorist attack in Mumbai. Rana had sent David Headley to Mumbai to conduct a recce for the attack. Let us tell you that David Headley used to work with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
After this, in the year 2009, the FBI arrested Tahawwur Rana. He was convicted of supporting Lashkar-e-Taiba in the US. After which he was kept in a detention center in Los Angeles. After this, a legal battle was fought for many years to bring the accused Tahawwur Rana to India, after which his extradition was approved.
