Complaint Filed Against Mamata Banerjee for Allegedly Inflammatory Remarks Targeting Multiple States
Supreme Court Lawyer Accuses West Bengal CM of Inciting Unrest and Regional Hatred
A complaint has been filed with the Delhi Police against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her remarks on Wednesday. The complaint has been filed by a lawyer, alleging that her remarks were inflammatory and aimed at inciting unrest.
The complaint, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Vineet Jindal, focuses on a statement made by Banerjee during an event of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, in which she allegedly said, "Remember, if Bengal burns, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn."
The lawyer argued that Banerjee's statement was inflammatory, potentially inciting regional hatred and enmity, and thus posing a threat to national harmony and public order. He argued that as the Chief Minister, Banerjee's words carry great weight, making the alleged remarks particularly dangerous.
The complainant said, "Given the inflammatory nature of her statement, which is aimed at creating animosity between the people of India and promoting hatred and enmity. Because in his statement he has mentioned the name of Delhi as one of the states. Being a resident of Delhi, I respectfully request that an FIR be lodged against Mamata Banerjee under sections 152, 192, 196 and 353 of the BNS. These crimes are cognizable and of serious nature. On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee condemned the BJP's 12-hour 'Bengal Bandh' and called it an attempt to 'defame' Bengal. She also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using his party to create unrest in the state.
Referring to the student-led uprising in Bangladesh, Mamata Banerjee said, 'Some people think that this (movement) is like the protests happening in Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh, they speak like us (Bengali). Our culture is also the same. However, Bangladesh is a separate country.'
CM Banerjee said, 'Modi Babu, you are trying to spread unrest in Bengal through your people, but remember, if you burn Bengal, Assam, Northeast, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi will also burn.'
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reacted strongly to Banerjee's remarks and accused her of spreading unrest and divisive politics across India. Sarma wrote on Instagram, 'Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don't show us red eyes. Speaking divisive language does not suit you.'
