CM Nitish Kumar Launches Construction of 6659 Playgrounds in Bihar to Boost Rural Sports Infrastructure
₹638 Crore MNREGA Initiative Aims to Promote Youth Engagement in Sports and Create 41 Lakh Employment Days
Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today inaugurated the construction work of 6659 playgrounds in 5671 Gram Panchayats under the Rural Development Department from 'Sankalp' located at 1, Anne Marg through remote. Under the MNREGA scheme under the Rural Development Department, approval has been given for the construction of 6659 playgrounds in the first phase in 5671 Gram Panchayats of 533 blocks of all 38 districts of the state, in which a total amount of Rs 63,827.35 lakh has been involved. An estimated 41 lakh man days will be created in the construction work of the playground.
During the program, Secretary of Rural Development Department Shri Lokesh Kumar Singh gave detailed information about the schemes being started through a presentation.
It is worth noting that to promote sports in the rural areas of the state and to provide sports opportunities to the youth of rural areas as well as to strengthen the sports infrastructure, playgrounds are being developed in the Gram Panchayats under the MNREGA scheme by the Rural Development Department.
As a result of the development of the playground, awareness and enthusiasm towards sports will increase among the youth of rural areas. With the development of the playground, opportunities for sports competitions and contests will be available among the youth. In the course of development of the playground, the labourers of the rural area will get employment opportunities.
On the basis of availability of land, the following three types of playgrounds are being developed in rural areas. The first type of playgrounds will be of large size, whose area is up to 04 acres. In the big playground, facilities for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, running track, badminton, high jump, long jump, kabaddi and kho-kho games will be developed for the rural youth as per local requirement. The second type of playgrounds will be of medium size, whose area is from 01 to 1.5 acres. In the medium sized playground, facilities for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, running track, badminton, high jump and long jump will be developed for the rural youth as per local requirement. The third type of playgrounds are of small size, whose area is less than one acre. A total of four types of sports facilities, basketball, volleyball, running track and badminton have been included in this.
In the program, the Chief Minister was welcomed by the Secretary of Rural Development Department, Mr. Lokesh Kumar Singh, by presenting a green plant.

Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue and Land Reforms Department Mr. Deepak Kumar Singh, Secretary of Rural Development Department Mr. Lokesh Kumar Singh, Special Officer to the Chief Minister Mr. Gopal Singh, Commissioner, MNREGA Mrs. Abhilasha Sharma and other senior officers were present, while the District Magistrates of all the districts were connected through video conferencing and Panchayat public representatives and a large number of youth were also connected to the program through web casting at the work commencement site.
