Centre Deploys Over 10,000 Additional Troops to Violence-Hit Manipur
Total Force Strength Reaches 288 Companies; New Coordination Cells and Control Rooms to Enhance Security
The Centre deploys more than 10,000 additional troops to ethnic violence-hit Manipur. This will increase the total number of companies of central forces in this Indian state bordering Myanmar to 288. The state's Chief Security Advisor gave this information to reporters on Friday.
Manipur Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh told reporters in the state capital Imphal that 90 companies, i.e. about 10,800 central forces personnel are being included. With this, the total number of companies deployed in Manipur has reached 288.
Kuldeep Singh said, "We are getting 90 companies of the army. A large part of it has already reached Imphal. We are deploying forces to protect the lives and properties of citizens and to keep an eye on sensitive areas."
He said, "All areas will be covered in a few days. We have made strong arrangements. New coordination cells and joint control rooms will be set up in every district."
