Awareness Programme on 'Prevention of Use of Drug, Its Act, Enforcement, and Awareness': A Step Toward a Drug-Free Delhi by 2027

Inspiring Youth Leadership and Collective Action in the Fight Against Drug Abuse

Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, a campaign for a "Drug-Free Delhi by 2027" was launched.

As per the directions of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, the awareness event on the prevention of drug abuse was jointly organized at the Auditorium, DPSRU under the guidance of the Secretary (Youth Affairs), Government of India, and the Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Delhi Police and Chairperson of Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti. A message sent by the Chief of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Govt. of India / Secretary (Youth Affairs) Government of India was read aloud to the audience's applause. Hundreds of students took an oath to join the campaign for the prevention of drug abuse.

The program was led by the Bureau Chief of Motherland Voice and the President of the Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti. The event, was jointly organized by Delhi Police (Crime Branch), NSS of Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU), and Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti and was themed "Prevention of use of drug, its act, enforcement and awareness". This impactful awareness program took place at the university auditorium. The message, sent by Sh. Meeta Rajiv Lochan, Secretary (Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports), Government of India, was read out to loud applause. She emphasized that India has the largest youth population, whose role is crucial in ensuring a safe and healthy society. She urged every young person to become a role model and inspire others not to use intoxicating substances. She also encouraged NSS Program Officers to spread this message to the masses under the guidance of Delhi Police and the Crime Branch. Sh. Meeta Rajiv Lochan commended the exemplary efforts of the Delhi Police (Crime Branch), NSS of DPSRU and Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti.

Chief Guest, Sh. Sanjay Bhatia IPS, Additional Police Commissioner/Crime, spoke about the police’s commitment to drug abuse awareness and eradication.

Sh. Vijay Gaur, Bureau Chief of Motherland Voice and Chairperson of Bhagidari Jan Sahyog Samiti shared inspiring anecdotes from his college days, emphasizing that saying no to smoking and drug use on the very first day leads to a fulfilling life. He applauded the spirit of Delhi Police's campaign.

Dr. Sajila Mani, Senior Consultant at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, presented the medical perspective on addiction, detailing its physical and mental effects.

Prof. Harvinder Popli highlighted the challenges law enforcement faces in tackling substance abuse and trafficking.

Sh. Bhism Singh IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Anti-Narcotics Task Force, Sh. Vijay Gaur, Dr. Sajila Mani, Prof. P.K. Sahoo, Prof. Harvinder Popli, Prof. Rajeev Tonk, and Dr. Prabodh Chander Sharma (Associate Dean, Academics) jointly light the ceremonial lamp.

Dr. Suresh programme Coordinator and Dr. Parul Sharma, NSS Programme Officers from DPSRU, Assistant Commissioners of Police Raj Kumar and Anil Sharma, Dr. Akeeb Bhatt from KR Mangalam University, Dr. Neerja Chaturvedi RJ FM Rainbow AIR and Dr. Mahesh Chandra (Journalist) were honored for their outstanding contributions to the No drug campaign.

The event also featured a pledge taken by the students led by Sarvshrestha Tiwari, General Secretary of the Students' Council, DPSRU, expert talks, street plays, painting exhibition on the symptoms of addiction, available helplines, and the role of families in prevention, and a pantomime show, all of which were major highlights of the program.
