Air Quality Deteriorates Again: 18 Areas in Delhi Report Severe Pollution

The air quality condition in the capital is not improving. There is a thick blanket of smog everywhere. People are forced to breathe in this pollution. Also, health-related problems have started increasing. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), once again the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 412 on Saturday. It has increased by 19 index points compared to Thursday, which is the severe category. After two days, the air has become stifling again. The air quality is in a severe category in 18 areas including Wazirpur, Jahangirpuri and Anand Vihar. This is the situation when the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) is in force in the entire Delhi-NCR. But there is no effect of this either.

Experts say that the situation is worsening due to the weather conditions being extremely unfavorable for the spread of pollutants. More or less the same situation is expected on Sunday as well. Smog will prevail at night. Due to this, the air will remain in the very poor category. There was fog on Saturday since morning. After the sun came out, a thick blanket of smog engulfed the sky. According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), the winds blew from the northwest direction. During this time, the wind speed was 4 to 8 kilometers per hour. However, in the evening the wind speed was six kilometers. Due to this, the pollutant particles became more condensed. In such a situation, people had to face smog.

According to IITM, the wind is expected to blow from the northwest direction on Sunday. During this time the wind will blow at four to 12 kilometers per hour. At the same time, the wind will blow from the west direction in the evening. According to the Decision Support System (DSS), the share of pollution caused by transport in the air was 16.423 percent, the share of pollution caused by burning garbage was 1.469 percent. Whereas on Friday, the share of stubble smoke was 17.9 percent. The mixing depth was 1500 meters. At the same time, the ventilation index was 3000 cubic meters per second. The ventilation index is estimated to be 11200 cubic meters per second within 24 hours.
