Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury Slams Mamata Banerjee Government Over Alleged Cover-Up in Kolkata Medical College Incident
Congress Leader Accuses Bengal CM of Intimidating Victim's Family and Hindering CBI Investigation
West Bengal Congress leader and former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday fiercely targeted the Mamata Banerjee-led government of the state. He said that despite being a woman, the Chief Minister is afraid of the women's movement.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury targeted the Mamata government over the rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at Kolkata's R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital and accused the victim's family of intimidating and threatening them. Targeting Mamata, Chowdhury said that he fears that the Bengal Police will not help the CBI at the behest of the CM.
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will make every possible effort to ensure that the truth of the case is not exposed. He said, 'I fear that the Bengal Police force will not help the CBI at the behest of the Chief Minister, because he does not want his party to be exposed. These people are adopting various tactics to divert people's attention. An attempt was made to bribe the victim's family with Rs 10 lakh. While giving the bribe, the victim's family was told that whatever happened has happened, now stop, there is no need to demand an investigation into the matter.'
Speaking further on this issue, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said, 'But despite this, the victim's family is demanding justice. The names of the beasts involved in this incident should be revealed. Is it wrong for the public to appeal to the Chief Minister of the ruling party for justice?'
The Congress leader alleged that the women who came out on the streets demanding justice were intimidated and pressure was put on them to withdraw the movement. In his statement, he criticized the role of the state government and said that the government wants to create an atmosphere of fear in the state.
