One of the liver problems is known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD. This problem is seen in people who drink very little or no alcohol at all.

The liver is a major organ in the human body. Which plays an important role in removing toxic substances from our body and filtering the blood. But if there is any problem related to it, then it can take the form of many serious diseases. NAFLD i.e. non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a problem that is mostly seen in Middle Eastern and Western countries. Obesity is also considered to be one of the reasons behind this. According to research, NAFLD is the most common form of liver disease in the world. Let us know its causes, symptoms and remedies.

What are NAFLD and NASH?

The severity of NAFLD ranges from hepatic steatosis, called fatty liver, to a more severe form of the disease called nonalcoholic steatohepatitis NASH. Due to NASH, the liver gets inflamed and damaged due to the accumulation of fat in the liver. When this lesion grows, it takes the form of cirrhosis. It can even cause liver cancer.

Recommendation to change the name

At present, steps are being taken to change the name of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease to Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver disease (MASLD). Experts have also recommended changing the name of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease symptoms

  • fatigue,
  • not feeling well,
  • pain in the upper right side of the abdomen
  • discomfort.

Possible symptoms of NASH and cirrhosis or serious lesions

In this problem, a person gets itching in the skin and swelling in the abdomen. Apart from this, breathing is difficult. There is swelling in the legs, and blood cells like spider webs are visible just below the skin surface. Also included are symptoms like redness of palms, yellowing of skin and eyes or jaundice.
