Nirupa Roy was married at the age of 15
Nirupa Roy's parents married her to Kamal Roy at the age of just 15. By the way, Nirupa's real name is Kokila Kishorchandra Bulsara. In an interview given to Filmfare in 1983, Nirupa had told that her husband wanted to become a hero. In 1946, Vishnu Kumar Vyas published an advertisement to give a chance to new actors for his Gujarati film. Her husband filled out the form and took her to the audition. Her husband did not get any role but she was selected. Then director Vyas gave her the screen name Nirupa Roy. Her husband was very happy with this and he fully supported her in doing films.
Nirupa Roy's father never saw her face in his entire life
Nirupa Roy had told in an interview that her husband was happy with her doing films, but when her parents came to know about this, they were very angry. She had said that even taking the name of films was a crime in her house, so when her father came to know about her work in films, he became furious. Her parents never saw her face again till their death. Nirupa was sad about this all her life.
She played Dev Anand's mother for the first time
Nirupa Roy started her acting career with the 1946 film Amar Raj. After this, she did a few more films. She played the role of a mother for the first time in the 1953 film Munimji. In this film, she played the role of the mother of Dev Anand, who was older than her. After this, she started getting offers of mother's roles. Yash Chopra's 1975 film Deewar proved to be the turning point of her career.
