David Dhawan Discusses How His Strict Approach and Varun's Career Aspirations Contributed to His Feelings of Insecurity on Set
Varun Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt made their Bollywood debut with Karan Johar's film 'Student of the Year'. The acting of these new actors in the film was highly appreciated. While two actors of 'Student of the Year' Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan belonged to film families, Siddharth Malhotra was an outsider. Siddharth has made a name in the industry on the basis of his talent. In such a situation, when these two newcomers were shooting for the film 'Student of the Year', Varun Dhawan used to be jealous of Siddharth. This has been revealed by the actor's father and director David Dhawan himself.
David Dhawan revealed this while talking about his son Varun Dhawan on Arbaaz Khan's show 'The Invincible'. He said that he deliberately used to deal strictly with his son. Director David Dhawan told that he and his wife did not want Varun Dhawan to come into films. He wanted to make his son a banker.
David Dhawan says, 'Varun Dhawan had returned from abroad after studying, my wife was asking him what he wanted to do next. Nowadays many people are working in banks and amidst all this, Varun went to Karan Johar without telling anyone and said that he wanted to assist him in his film and he went abroad with Karan to shoot 'My Name is Khan'.
The director, while talking about his son's first film, says, 'Karan Johar came to my house and said that he wanted to launch Varun, he had already done a shoot with Siddharth Malhotra by then'. David Dhawan further said that Varun was sometimes jealous of Siddharth and he used to get very sad on the set. In such a situation, David Dhawan explained to him that this often happens in films with two heroes.
