Ripping into the Bharatiya Janata Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's blatant support for filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's movie "The Kashmir Files", Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal mocked BJP's apparent use of the movie for political gains. While responding to demands of the movie to be made tax-free in Delhi, like it has been in other states of India, Kejriwal suggested that the makers should upload it on YouTube so that the public could watch it for free. In response, Delhi BJP President, Adesh Gupta, said that the Delhi CM had "crossed all limits of political decency" with his remarks over the issue. He has said, "The AAP had in the past supported the demand for a plebiscite by Kashmiri separatists. So, appreciation for The Kashmir Files movie cannot be expected from him." https://twitter.com/AamAadmiParty/status/1506958253493788672?t=ElzY0jxbgoF7BE91Mby-kw&s=19 The Kashmir Files is a movie based on the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits, who were forced to flee from the Kashmir Valley due to terrorism. The movie was released on March 11, 2022 and since then, it has managed to kick up a political storm in different parts of the country, drawing extreme reactions from people belonging to different walks of life. While the BJP-ruled states are going all out to provide support for the movie, by way of tax exemption or allowing state employees time off from work so that they can go and watch the movie, the opposition has rejected the movie as being too violent and a propaganda. In Delhi too, the BJP leaders were demanding that the movie be made tax-free, during the address of Lt. Governor Anil Baijal, in the State Assembly on Wednesday. Taking a jibe at the BJP for this stand, Kejriwal said in the Assembly on Thursday, "They (BJP) are demanding that the movie be declared tax-free in Delhi. Upload it on YouTube, the movie will become free and everyone will be able to watch it." Kejriwal further slammed the whole BJP machinery for becoming busy with promoting the movie across the country. He said, "Some people are earning crores in the name of Kashmiri Pandits and you (BJP) have been sticking posters of the film everywhere in the city." He mocked the BJP workers, saying, "Even Hitler gave jobs to his lackeys. What did he (Modi) give you? Kejriwal works even for you. If someone in your family is ill, Kejriwal provides you medicines, not Modi. Open your eyes, leave BJP and join AAP." Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi referred to The Kashmir Files as a movie that has rattled the "entire ecosystem", especially those who claim to be the torchbearers of the freedom of expression.
