Punjab DGP Directs Field Officers to Eliminate Drugs and Gangster Culture

Chandigarh: In a bid to fulfill Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's vision of a drug-free and crime-free Punjab, Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav held a virtual meeting today with all senior officers, including Station House Officers (SHOs). The focus of the meeting was to review the law and order situation and strategize ways to combat organized crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.

Free Hand to Act: DGP Yadav empowered the officers to take strict action against lawbreakers to maintain law and order. He assured them of complete support for any decisions they make to uphold peace in the state.

Building on Success: While acknowledging the record seizure of 1450Kg heroin in 2023, DGP Yadav stressed the need to further intensify efforts. He directed officers to target the source of drug supply by dismantling smuggling networks and identifying major players. He emphasized utilizing financial experts to track drug money and freeze assets acquired through illegal means.

Citizen-Friendly Policing: The DGP emphasized the importance of public trust. He directed SHOs to be accessible to the community and ensure citizen-friendly policing. He reiterated his earlier directive for senior officers (ADGPs to SHOs) to be present in their offices from 11 AM to 1 PM on weekdays to address public grievances.

Multi-pronged Approach: DGP Yadav ordered all Commissioners of Police (CPs) and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to collaborate with specialized units to eradicate gangster culture and drug trafficking. He also mandated monthly crime review meetings at the district level and regular sessions to address police personnel's concerns.

Specialized Units Step Up: Special DGP STF Kuldeep Singh announced the establishment of a dedicated helpline for the public to anonymously report drug-related information. Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla emphasized the importance of night patrols and monitoring repeat offenders. ADGP AGTF Promod Ban directed field units to track bailed-out gangsters and criminals. ADGP Intelligence RK Jaiswal advocated for collaboration with local CID units, while ADGP Counter Intelligence Amit Prasad stressed the importance of traditional human intelligence gathering in villages. The revival of the beat system based on established police principles was also discussed.

Punjab Police, under DGP Yadav's leadership, appears determined to take a multi-pronged approach to tackle the challenges of drugs and gangsters, ensuring a safer and more secure state for its citizens.
