The electricity consumers of North Bihar have achieved a significant milestone by rapidly adopting digital platforms for electricity payments. On October 16, 2024, a record was set when 383,145 consumers completed online recharges, resulting in a total revenue collection of approximately ₹11 crores, the highest-ever single-day collection through online recharge. This marks a major achievement for Bihar's digital transformation in electricity distribution.

Before this, the highest revenue collection was on September 18, 2024, when ₹7.58 crore was collected from 333,763 recharge transactions. Yesterday's figures reflect not only a record number of transactions but also strong participation in reconnection services, with 396,688 disconnections and 311,910 reconnections carried out on the same day, facilitated by an efficient digital reconnection system.

For October 2024, the average daily revenue stood at ₹2.73 crore, underscoring the growing importance of digital services in enhancing both revenue collection and consumer satisfaction.

Expressing his appreciation for this achievement, Shri Nilesh Deore, IAS, Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company, stated, "We are continuously working towards simplifying and improving the accessibility of online services for our consumers. The record number of online recharges is a testament to the effectiveness of digital platforms in addressing challenges related to billing and payment submissions."

The Smart Meter Project, launched in 2019 to make power distribution more transparent and efficient, continues to progress. To date, approximately 3.1 million smart meters have been installed across Bihar, with a significant portion falling under the North Bihar Power Distribution Company. The project aims to complete state-wide installation by 2025.

The introduction of smart meters and digital payment options has greatly benefitted consumers, addressing earlier issues such as billing delays, incorrect meter readings, and difficulties in timely payment. With the real-time monitoring capabilities provided by smart meters, consumers are now able to manage their energy consumption more effectively. This has led to improved service delivery and increased efficiency in revenue collection.

The North Bihar Power Distribution Company remains fully committed to providing enhanced services to its consumers and contributing to the overall development of the state. The company will continue to focus on digital and technological advancements to ensure that power distribution remains efficient, transparent, and consumer-friendly in the future.
