New Delhi:The National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) has witnessed an extraordinary surge in enrollment over recent years, marking a significant milestone in fostering inclusive economic growth and skill development across India.


According to recent data, the enrollment of apprentices under NAPS has soared from 35,333 in the financial year 2018-19 to a staggering 931,406 in the current financial year, 2023-24. This remarkable increase reflects a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 74.76% over the past five years, underscoring the scheme's effectiveness in promoting apprenticeship training.


Compared to the previous financial year, 2022-23, the current year's enrollment has experienced a substantial 26.08% year-over-year increase. In 2022-23, the total number of registered apprentices was 738,704, which has now surged to 931,406 in 2023-24.


Leading this surge are states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, showcasing the widespread impact of NAPS nationwide.


The success stories of beneficiaries further illustrate the transformative power of NAPS. Individuals like Ranjana from Madhya Pradesh, Vishal from Uttar Pradesh, and Shivam from Pilibhit have not only gained valuable skills through apprenticeship programs but have also significantly improved their livelihoods, challenging socio-economic barriers and fostering personal and professional growth.

NAPS aims to bolster apprenticeship training across the country by providing stipend support, enhancing capacity, and advocating for rapid growth. Its objectives include fostering skilled manpower, incentivizing establishment participation, facilitating upskilling opportunities, and encouraging apprenticeship enrollment in small enterprises and underserved regions.
