In yet another step towards further strengthening the ‘Education Revolution’ in the National Capital, Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday inaugurated the Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School and Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School in the Deoli Pahari area of Sangam Vihar. The new school is set to bring a paradigm shift in the quality of education for the underprivileged students in the area promoting highest quality education amongst underprivileged communities, which shall liberate the conditions of the government schools and upgrade it to the world class.
The compound of the school has the statue of Dr. B R Ambedkar, which shall inspire the students enrolled in the institution to take up the path of his legacy left behind. The renaming of the school after this celebrated freedom fighter, shall help in creating an equitable society. The land for the school complex (8494.59 sqm) was given by the Gram Sabha to the Directorate of Education and the construction of the school began in 2019, and was completed in July this year. The school building consists of 3 blocks and has a total of 62 classrooms. In addition, there are 4 labs, 2 libraries and a lift. There are also office & staff rooms, activity rooms, toilet blocks on every floor of the building. The new school will begin from the current academic session and a total of 2000 students from the nearby areas will study in this magnificent campus which will offer all streams of study in senior secondary class- Science, Commerce, Arts & Vocational subjects. A double-shift Govt. Girls Senior Secondary School (Morning shift) and Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School (Evening shift) will start operations from August this year.
The purpose of inaugurating this school is to resolve the challenges of poor quality education, low teacher-student ratio, long distance traveling etc.which exists in the government schools of overpopulated areas like Sangam Vihar and Deoli.
The dignitaries of the inauguration ceremony were- Education Minister Ms Atishi, MLA of Deoli Vidhan Sabha, Shri Prakash Jarwal and senior officials of concerned departments. Addressing the students and their parents gathered at the inauguration ceremony of the school, Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “The Delhi Government has been working hard to fulfil the desires of its citizens. I feel the happiest whenever I travel to Delhi to inaugurate a school. At the pace at which we are currently working there are 2-3 schools that we inaugurate in Delhi every month. The condition of government schools at the time were so bad that it felt as if the roof and the walls would cave in, and the children were forced to sit on dirty floors. The quality of education was so poor that most of the children would eventually go on to fail in these schools. It is my responsibility to provide the best educational facilities to all of our children."
Besides that, he drew inferences from the speech delivered by Deoli MLA Shri Parkash Jarwal who mentioned about government school students clearing NEET and JEE exams.
Mr. Kejriwal highlighted the steps being taken on the water scarcity issue in Sangam Vihar and Deoli region. He also pointed that the stated areas have always faced the challenges pertaining lack of infrastructure, education etc. but Delhi Government will take every step to improve their conditions.
Heading on, Ms. Atishi said, “If a child is born into an underprivileged family, that does not mean that he/she cannot aspire to work in multinational companies or become a doctor, engineer, or lawyer. If a child is born into an underprivileged family, then it should not be a compulsion for him/her to do menial jobs for survival.” In addition to this, she stated about the developments that are being seen in the Delhi government schools since AAP Government has been in power. She also congratulated Mr. Kejriwal for taking up this great step for the upliftment of the underprivileged.
